We have taken cars, bikes, planes, trains and boats to reach remote corners of Myanmar and speak to some of the fascinating people who call this country home.

While Myanmar is dwarfed by the giants on its doorstep, India and China, it is still bigger than Vietnam and Malaysia put together. Its 51 million people have a richly diverse array of ethnicities and cultures. Buddhists make up around 90% of the population, while there are also many Christians, Muslims, Hindus and anamists. There are over 130 recognised ethnic minority groups in the country.

But as our stories will show, people's sense of identity is more complex than these labels - and it is evolving all the time.
